HEDOF is sponsoring a health and environmental education program, known as HEEA KONEKT, that helps youth make the connection between human health and the environment. In Africa, 23% of deaths are attributed to environmental issues. This can include problems related to contaminated water, inadequate sanitation and poor infrastructure, pollution, and drought related conditions impacted by global warming. From the air we breathe to the water we drink, to the places we live and work, the environment is ultimately linked to many deaths. Understanding the situation in Africa and guarding againstissues by providing a thorough environmental education is a top priority.
Our HEEA KONEKT curriculum gives secondary school students an overview of multiple environmental issues in their region and how to address them. By providing an education outside of a typical classroom, it will be more effective. It will also lead to a multi-generational understanding of the world that African youth live in and how they can improve it. The future of the planet is in the hands of the youth. Your donation helps us prepare our HEEA KONEKT Fellows to assume leadership roles on protecting their environment.
