Executive Director
Dr. Azuine, a Harvard Kennedy School of Government alumnus and community development leader, is the founder and Executive Director of HEDOF. In this role, he provides leadership and overall technical direction aimed at achieving HEDOF’s strategic goals and objectives. He brings to the board over 15 years experience in international development, public health, maternal and child health, clinical care services, mental health care, program management, program planning, monitoring, evaluation, research, and mass communications across three continents of Africa, Europe, and North America. Romey’s public service experience includes positions in the leading private and public agencies in Africa, UK, and USA including the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, U.S. Government Accountability Office, U.K. National Health Service, Germany’s Delegation of German Industry and Commerce, Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, and the Nigeria Country Office of the international non-profit organization, Ashoka Innovators for the Public. For three years running, he has been the President of the African Community of St. Bernard, a faith-based African diaspora organization in Washington, DC, USA. He’s also a member of the Washington, DC chapter of the Harvard Kennedy School alumni association.
He has received over 10 scholarship and fellowship awards for pre-and post-doctoral training in public health and leadership from across the world. Romey is the Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of MCH and AIDS, a multidisciplinary, peer-reviewed journal that focuses on the social determinants of health and disease around the world, especially in developing countries. In this position, he chairs an editorial board of 50 internationally- acclaimed scholars drawn from all regions of the World Health Organization.
Romey graduated from Harvard University Kennedy School of Government Executive Education where he trained under the tutelage of Dr. Marshall Ganz, President Barack Obama’s former advisor. He holds a Doctor of Public Health from Morgan State University, Baltimore, MD., USA., a Master of Public Health from the Howard University College of Medicine, Washington, DC, USA, a Registered Nurse (General Nursing) Licensure from Kingston University & St. George’s Hospital Medical School, London, UK, and a BA in Mass Communication from the University of Nigeria, in addition to other numerous short courses and certifications. His service on the GHEP board is an uncompensated volunteer community service position.
